How Heatpumps Work

The outdoor heat pump / air-conditioning unit draws warmth from the outside air (in even the coldest weather) and then transfers it inside the home/business using a refrigerant process through a piping system powered by an indoor unit.

In summer, the process can be reversed for cooling – warm air is drawn from the building’s interior and is expelled by the outside unit.

Heat Pump Facts:
  • Heat pumps are extremely energy efficient, capable of transferring 4kW of heat into a space while only consuming 1kW of electrical energy.
  • They use inverter technology, offering more energy savings by matching compressor speed output to your indoor heating or cooling load conditions.
  • Heat pumps use environmentally friendly refrigerants therefore reducing carbon dioxide emissions. They are inconspicuous and quiet.

Heat Pump Installation Options

High Wall Inverters – The most popular residential unit which offers extremely quiet operation and requires no floor space.

Floor Consoles – Ideal for space heater or fire & fireplace replacement. They are slim and lightweight and can be recessed into a wall cavity giving a shallow profile for installation.

Ceiling Cassette
– Ceiling mounted units take up no floor space and are suitable for larger floor areas. They have a four-way air direction and have adjustable air flow patterns.

Ceiling Concealed (Ducted) – A versatile unit, ideal for use in homes, offices or hotels. They are mounted in the ceiling space and are unseen in the conditioned space, with only the air grills visible.

Multi-Split System – Uses a single outdoor unit which can control up to 5 indoor units depending on the configuration.
