With a grid-tied solar system you consume energy as it is produced. When your solar panels are not producing energy, you can draw energy from the grid as needed. Or if you have excess energy that you can’t consume, you can sell it back to your energy provider.
A hybrid solar system is a grid-tied system with the extra benefit of battery storage used to store excess power. Stored energy can then be used to offset peak load or night time use.
An off-grid solar system is a ‘stand-alone’ system, independent of any grid power source – for when there is either no grid connection available (eg, remote locations) or you simply choose not to be connected to a grid.
